6 TYPICAL NIGERIAN BREAKFAST MEALS

Get to know breakfast menus in a typical Nigerian household. Breakfast is usually the first meal of the day and is said to be very essential to the body and general wellbeing.
Though some people like me are not much of a fan of breakfast since it makes me feel lazy and heavy which eventually leads to low productivity.
Hence, I rather skip breakfast than dinner but there is always an exception to this on weekends, especially Saturdays and when there are kids around. Let’s dive into the list of possible Nigerian breakfasts you would get to eat in a typical household.

AKARA & PAP/CUSTARD: This is one healthy Nigerian food and it is widely accepted in many, if not all households. Akara is the king for a weekend Nigerian breakfast idea, Akara is loved due to its versatility, and it can be paired with bread. It is prepared using beans, you wash the beans, ground them into liquid form and you get to add these few ingredients to make it tasty; fresh pepper and onions. The English name is beans cake, after eating this meal, your next step is to sleep. This is one of the best meals to add to your Nigerian breakfast timetable, especially Saturdays.

BREAD & TEA: A quick breakfast meal, mostly eaten or paired with egg, or bread spread. This is ideal when you are not in for something heavy and you have less time on your hands.

PANCAKE: This is more like an English breakfast, pancakes are made using flour. You put your flour in a bowl, add 1 large egg, add milk, add sugar, add a tiny pinch of salt, a tiny little oil, and finally, you add baking powder, mix these ingredients to make a smooth paste, then you scoop a small portion into a pan(as the name implies, pancake). The pan gives it that round shape it has, you can eat it with scrambled eggs, sausage, or baked beans and some people add syrups on top of it. It can be washed down with custard, oat, tea/coffee, or even a smoothie (depending on your preference). This is a great idea for a healthy Nigerian breakfast.

PASTA OR INDOMIE: This is the normal spaghetti or macaroni we cook, easy to prepare. It could be eaten with stew or can be turned into jellof either way; it is a quick Nigerian breakfast meal. The indomie is also known as noodle but it is mostly called indomie and it is super easy and fast to prepare. Every household eats this, mostly the children and young adults, older people do not love this so much. It can be cooked with eggs, either boiled or fried and vegetables can be added to it to make it a proper healthy Nigerian breakfast.

FRIES: This can be fried plantain (Nigerian’s favorite), fried yam, and fried potatoes. It can be paired with egg, custard, oat, and tea. Adults love this breakfast but children love it more. It is also one of the easiest Nigerian breakfast ideas and it should be added to your Nigerian breakfast timetable because the whole family would be anticipating the day it is going to be served.

LEFTOVERS: This one here is the trenches style; this Nigerian breakfast is for typical households who do not have the strength and energy it takes to think of what breakfast to serve or the energy to prepare anything. This household simply goes with anything food so long as hunger isn’t felt anymore. The leftovers are foods cooked the previous day and are remained in the morning; it could be beans o, garri, and soup, just anything to fill the belle.

The leftovers are life savers because there are days you wake up with no idea of what proper breakfast to eat; you just resort to the remaining food from the previous day. If it is beans, you can just pair it with fried plantain or potato, the stomach has no mouth to speak.
